I think conservatives are going to be surprised by the popular reaction if the federal government goes into shutdown mode. I think there will be a lot of negativity towards the party unwilling to compromise, debate, work out a budget.
The anti-union legislation in the Midwest has energized the democratic base unlike the 2010 election. If republicans are seen as intransigent to democratic compromises on the budget, federal debt-limit and next years budget, it could seriously imperil the republican house majority.

Yep, those Liberals and Democrats are in deep Caca. Hell, they couldn't even be bothered last year to produce a budget, which is why we have these problems today.
If I were a conspiracy nut, I'd think they did it on purpose because they knew they were getting reamed... so they decided to manufacture a crisis by not doing their job last year, and they hope to ride it to victory in 2012. If that was their intent, they've seriously miscalculated the mood of the electorate.
"If republicans are seen as intransigent to democratic compromises..."
What compromises? Republicans are asking in the neighborhood of 60billion in cuts, but Democrats only 6? the only thing seriously in peril next election are democratic seats in the house and senate... as well as the White House. This economic house of cards is trembling, and Democrats can't see any need to make serious cuts?
Your First Amendment right to free speech is a privilege and comes with a measure of responsibility. You have the right to exercise that responsibility here but we reserve the right to inform you when you've used that right irresponsibly.
We are benevolent dictators in this regard. Enjoy.
Well next week we'll find out.

I'm liking the look of 2012 already.
