You may be surprised to hear this, but I agree with you on the Tea Party Flag.
As to the shirt, hat, and underwear, they may not be in good taste (underwear?), but for the most part all I see are stars and stripes, and, because of their cut or design they are not strictly "flags", instead they copies of a motif-- stars and/or stripes --an allusion to Old Glory, like bunting at a political rally. But the Tea Party flag is clearly a flag, and it dilutes the meaning behind our flag; that we are a nation of fifty states, whose founding was in 13 original colonies. To put a face on that flag, or a logo, or a slogan, implies that image is the reason for this country's union.
So, I don't like Obama's face in place of 50 beautiful stars any more than I'd like Bush's face in that place, any more than I like the Tea Party logo, or DNC logo, or RNC logo in place of those same 50 stars.
Your First Amendment right to free speech is a privilege and comes with a measure of responsibility. You have the right to exercise that responsibility here but we reserve the right to inform you when you've used that right irresponsibly.
We are benevolent dictators in this regard. Enjoy.
Why not? patriotism isn't religion.
ReplyDeleteHave you seen all the American flag shirts and hats and ties, underwear and shorts and shoes and license tags?
Or the Tea Party Flags?
