"If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Michelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music, or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well."
--Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Commentary from Kirk Cameron:
Just as God speaks on tops of mountains, He also paints sunrises with light and clouds, composes symphonies with birds, crickets, and frogs, and sculpts massive rock statues with wind and water. God is not only a preacher; He is also a writer, a musician, an engineer, a carpenter, a father, a son, a brother, a King, and a servant. What has God called you to be? Don't wish you were something else. Be the very best at what you do. As a fellow actor once told me, "There are no small parts, only small actors," likewise, there are no insignificant roles to play in the Kingdom of God; they're all important. There are however, people who fail to see the significance of doing what they've been called to do with all their heart. Go all out. Be all in. Don't quit. Don't back down. Don't stop till you cross the line and finish the race. Then after you've been faithful, you may hear the heavenly words, "Well done, my good and faithful servant."
To anyone reading this who takes prayer seriously...
Pray for our president. Pray for this country. Pray for mercy.
There is more to the descent of this nation than a single man, group of men, or their politics.
whaaaaa??? I though civil rights, class warfare, social justice and wealth envy were all the same thing.

ReplyDeleteWhat I think King was saying here was an echo of Philippians 4:11: "Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content."
Our culture teaches us (despite the fact that its perspective is false) that to reach the sky is our due. To merely reach for it isn't good enough; we, according to liberalism predominantly, are owed the sky-- we are promised it after all. The problem with this is the impossibility of everyone achieving their limitless sky full of dreams fulfilled. Not everyone CAN achieve their dreams. Therefore, whatever state we find ourselves in, we should be content therein. There is too much self-loathing, regret, hatred, what-have-you, otherwise. Besides, there is no shame in having done the best we could, provided we actually did do the best we could.
Everything we do should be done in such a manner as to become an example to others. Sadly, this example is rarely seen today... or in any generation.

ReplyDeleteNonsense.
"Would That Obama Took These Words to Heart..."
ReplyDeleteWhy would you think he hasn't?
