Quizá it's porque I'm viejo y determinado de mis maneras, pero I don't entiende porqué todo nosotros leyó, si sea muestras, documentos, menús, etc, tiene que tener una traducción española agregada a ellos. Bien, that' mal de s. Lo entiendo, pero creo there' manera menos costosa del S.A. de hacer que los inmigrantes entienden qué we' el re intentar decirles:
Lecciones de lengua.
Déjelas aprender inglés.
Finalmente, un candidato gubernativo que dice lo que están pensando la mayoría de los americanos:
Tim James está correcto.
La eliminación las idiomas españolas (y otras) de las traducciones en exámenes del carné de conducir (y, franco, todo) ahorraría el estado de los mil millones de Alabama de dólares. Toma mucho dinero para agregar el texto español a todos estas muestras y documentos.
Más, si los inmigrantes podrían entender señales de peligro, como James dice, allí estarían lejos menos accidentes, y una miríada de otros problemas causados por una falta de leer y de entender inglés podría ser solucionada.
Sería mucho más barata y tendría más sentido de ofrecer simplemente lecciones de lengua a las que los necesitan. Y si no creen que los necesitan, deben apenas volver a sus propios países en donde pueden comunicar con otros que hablen y entiendan su lengua.
Dios sabe que iría una manera larga hacia solucionar el problema del inmigrante ilegal.

I can't wait for the Libs to start attacking James for this. Of course they won't remember just yesterday their lord and master Obama also said everyone who becomes a citizen should learn english.
ReplyDeleteOf course that doesn't mean that Obama will support a national language, just because he read it off a teleprompter doesn't mean he's actually going to do anything.
Libs should just be glad that the US doesn't have the same immigration laws as mexico. If we did we would be throwing illegals into concentration camp style jails.
Considering that federal highway funds are tied to non-discriminatory driver testing, I don't think Alabama is going to scrap it's multi-language test.
ReplyDeleteSecondarily I don't care if other drivers on the road speak english or not. What I care about is whether you can drive safely. Limiting the ability for everyone to take a drivers license test and be certified to drive does not make me safer.
Tim is just making a brazen stunt to gin up support on the far right. On it's merits it's a stupid idea.

As I can readily see by Mark's little exercise, three is a difference in understanding in translations of different languages. Knowing the language of the host country makes perfect sense, and tying official licensing to our language makes even more sense. Tying funds from the feds to mandates to spend tax monies on multiple reprintings of official documents and forms to accomodate multiple languages makes absolutely NO sense whatsoever. I hope James wins and makes the changes he seeks and then tells Washington to go scratch regarding federal funds.

Bent, I fail to grasp the point you are trying to make by quoting Emma Lazurus' poem.
ReplyDeleteIf you are saying I am suggesting we refuse the huddled masses and wretched refuse, you are absolutely mistaken in your assessment of this post.
I have suggested nothing of the kind. I, like most good Americans, welcome LEGAL immigrants, and only suggest it makes good sense (and costs less)for them to learn our language instead of us bending over backwards to accommodate them.
Hmmm. When that statue went up, didn't they create an kinda induction center on Ellis Island? Weren't all those immigrants processed according to the laws at the time, making them legal immigrants. If the federal government won't do anything about illegal immigration and the Mexican drug war spilling over into OUR country, the states HAVE to step up.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice poem... it's a grand ideal... but the law says you must be a legal immigrant to legally live, work, and enjoy the benefits of citizenship. Why is the immigration service raiding meat packing plants in states like Kansas (following the law, I might add) but along the border NO ONE on the left seems to have a spine and defend the border?

This, I believe, is the problem with education today; especially it's domination by liberal educators and the powerful (liberal) teachers unions...
ReplyDeleteIdeals like those espoused in the Lazarus poem are often considered to carry more weight than the law itself; progressives will cite ideals as being more important than the law, and this cannot be a good thing. Ideals change with every generation, but in order for this or any nation to maintain a stable system of government it needs a set of immutable principles. Some laws can and should change over time provided a clear majority approves and the laws don't provide for a coarsening of the culture and societal mores.
But to quote a poem as though it held more weight than codified law? This is dangerous.
