Ted Nugent on the Tenth Amendment...

Posted at Human Events, last month...

Mr. President, Don't Mess With Texas
--Ted Nugent
March 18, 2009

...

In an attempt to weaken the roles and responsibilities of the states, Fedzilla has worked tirelessly over the years to destroy the Tenth Amendment by arguing the Commerce Clause of the Constitution is more important and relevant than the Tenth Amendment. As we have witnessed, Fedzilla has grown exponentially and has become a repressive force in every facet of our lives.

But there is hope for freedom, liberty and the rights of states to determine their own destinies. Even though it is on life support, there is a faint heart beat left in the Tenth Amendment. And the Great Republic of Texas, under the leadership of the good Governor Rick Perry, is joining the sixteen other states that have already made their defiant, sovereign statement of autonomy in the right way.

These states have now evoked the Tenth Amendment and declared their sovereignty to put the brakes on Emperor Obama's mob-like fiscal mandates in a dangerous attempt to strangle the liberty out of states by forcing states to accept the so-called stimulus money and thereby become slaves to Fedzilla control.

...

Any idea, anyone, what it is Texas has done, and who the other 16 states are?

UPDATE: 3:20pm / Tuesday, April 14, 2009

Okay here's a link to Texas Governor Rick Perry's official webpage:

Gov. Perry Backs Resolution Affirming Texas’ Sovereignty Under 10th Amendment
HCR 50 Reiterates Texas’ Rights Over Powers Not Otherwise Granted to Federal Government
--April 9, 2009

"I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state. That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union."

  1. Can anyone name the one state that was a country before it was a state?

And what were Davy Crockett's famous words to Congress?

Can anyone name the difference for conservatives between six months ago and today?

Were red states asserting states' rights in October?

  3. What are ya tryin' to say, Bent?

Regarding the Texas governor, he was on Greta van Sustern tonite, but I couldn't hear exactly what they were saying. I did hear they were discussing this topic, just not the details. Dang!

  4. And what were Davy Crockett's famous words to Congress? Was it these words?

"It is a precedent fraught with danger for the country, for when Congress once begins to stretch its power beyond the limits of the Constitution, there is no limit to it and no security for the people... ... the Constitution, to be worth anything, must be held sacred and rigidly observed in all its provisions."
--- Colonel David Crockett member of the U.S. Congress 1827-31 & 1832-35, AKA Davvy Crockett"
Not sure of the answer of the first question, but if it wasn't Texas, I'm gonna say, North Dakota, for no particular reason.

  5. My bad, he didn't say that to Congress... He said it to his constituents in Tennessee when they failed to elect him to a fourth term. He said, "I'm going to Texas and you can all go to hell."

Where, of course, he died at the Alamo, in 1836.

As to the first. Texas is the only state in the union that was a country before it was a state. Some folk still refer to their home state as, "the Republic of Texas," not that that really means anything other than a point of pride.

It all sounds like sour grapes and sore losers to me.

President Obama hasn't suddenly upended our country and society. The changes he has enacted and proposed are much less earthshaking than those imposed by the Bush administration after September 11th.

Imagine if Bill Clinton had suggested that his administration would start keeping a list of people allowed to fly or enter the capital. And beyond that we're going to start taping your phone calls if you dial overseas. And oh yeah, we don't need warrants for any of this. And some of ya are going to be locked up for maybe a decade before you see a judge.

You didn't hear prominent liberals suddenly suggesting Oregon and Maine join Canada. Liberals voiced their concerns with the new policies and tried to change them. But now after Barack Obama proposes raising the top tax-rate from 36% to 39% you suddenly have a "grassroots" movement to end taxation. And prominent conservatives start talking about secession.

It's all sour grapes and sore losers!

Plus of course is the fact that Gov. Rick Perry is facing a tough primary fight in Texas, and wants the free publicity. Don't be a sheep.

  7. Eric, re: "Some folk still refer to their home state as, "the Republic of Texas," not that that really means anything other than a point of pride."

On the contrary, it means a great deal. I've lived in Texas, and the Texans I knew made a point of making sure I knew, Texas is the only state that has the right to secede and return to being a republic written specifically into their state Constitution.

Living up to your name, BenT.

We all know your quote above most accurately describes the left over the past 8-years.

    Including you.

  10. Regarding your question from the post Any idea, anyone, what it is Texas has done, and who the other 16 states are?, I believe it has to do with refusing stimulus money or portions of it. The feds, I guess, are pissed that anyone is questioning their generosity.

  11. Bent,

I can't believe you're really trying to compare Obama's actions with Bush's that were enacted after an attack on our soil. And let's look at those you've mentioned:

"...keeping a list of people allowed to fly or enter the capital."Actually, I'm not sure what this is all about. Profiling? Good idea if our attackers are identifiable by their general ages and place of origin.

"...taping your phone calls if you dial overseas."This was done if the calls were going to and from suspected terrorists or nations that harbor them. Random listening to just anyone was neither done nor the point of the action. It was a darn good tactic until liberal media announced the practice to the world.

"And some of ya are going to be locked up for maybe a decade before you see a judge."As if this is a problem. In what war have we ever NOT locked up prisoners for the duration without trial?

Your First Amendment right to free speech is a privilege and comes with a measure of responsibility. You have the right to exercise that responsibility here but we reserve the right to inform you when you've used that right irresponsibly.

We are benevolent dictators in this regard. Enjoy.
