Okay, Mubarak is gone. Now what?

When all the dust finally settles who will control of Egypt? the radical Muslim Brotherhood? Yet another military general? A democratically elected leader? A religious head? Secular head?

What happens now?

This is the definition of activism: A relatively small (a few million vs 84 million in population) segment of society, in only 18 days, forcing regime change, societal change, changes in foreign relations... Who knows WHAT happens now?

  1. One-third of the Egyptian population is under 15; a huge piece of the population pie, but a piece with no say in Egypt's future.

I'm not convinced yet that Egypt will succumb to Sharia. For one thing, Egypt's military is loathe to fire upon its own people; Iran, conversely has no qualms at all about firing on its own. So it remains to be seen WHAT will happen now that Mubarak is gone.

If the military can pull of fair, free, and on-time elections, there's still no guarantee a group like the Muslim Brotherhood won't take control. But if that occurs, there could be a civil war-- remember, the military is loathe to fire on its own, and its already facilitated the departure of Mubarak's regime.

That one-third group wants freedom, but there's no guarantee they'll get it. Sharia and Democracy are mutually exclusive systems, and incompatible bed-mates. Any union of the two would be a bastardization of both, and nothing good would come of it.

  3. The Muslim Brotherhood is taking over, see. You either pay up or they send over their crack spec-ops to night drop and put botulism in your Wheaties, LSD in the water supply and anthrax in all the ventilation ducts.

    Big scary Muslims coming.

  4. What branch of sharia does the Brotherhood follow?

If you can't answer that you really should just shut up and stop listening to Glenn Beck.

  5. Ducky (& I'm sure you are),

Which "branch" of sharia do you believe is a superior replacement for our current form of gov't? If you can't answer that question, then you really should just shut up and stop trying to act like you are really capable of "cheesing off the far right".

  6. What branch of Sharia? Is there a good one? What makes you an expert on Sharia? What brand of Kool Aid you been drinking, Ducky?

Oh! And I can't recall any mention of Beck here in this post. Kick all the straw dogs you want, but that one hasn't even showed up to fight. Sounds to me like you ain't been paying attention.

Your First Amendment right to free speech is a privilege and comes with a measure of responsibility. You have the right to exercise that responsibility here but we reserve the right to inform you when you've used that right irresponsibly.

We are benevolent dictators in this regard. Enjoy.
