"...the tell-tale signs of blood in the water."

For a larger version click here.
Deep Blue Congemony v1This is not the original design. First came the "Creative Hegemony" version which can be viewed here. I was just running through a short tutorial and built a really nice background, but the background was empty. And so I went and performed a "Creative Hegemony" treatment and ended up with a shark cruising through blood in the water. Then I remembered a line from the previous post.

Twenty minutes later, I had "Conservative Hegemony."

Obama has really screwed himself on this, and yes, conservatives everywhere smell blood in the water. It would be foolish to not sit down to lunch, although.... I hear Donkey is tough and stringy.

yes the American public is safe, because medicare won't pay doctors who provide end-of-life counseling.

or maybe democracy is saved because there will be no public insurance plan competing with the private insurance companies.

    yeah!

The post office competes with UPS and Fedex and that doesn't add to our nation at all. And obviously Fedex and UPS are on the edge of collapse because of competition from the USPS.

  2. UPS and fed ex are not allowed to deliver letters, only packages. Perhaps it will be the same with gov'nt health care. Private insurance won't be allowed to cover the most basic health care and we will be forced to use the gov'nt "option". Good point Ben, just one more reasion to oppose the plan

  3. Actually, Edwin, speaking as a former driver for DHL, UPS and FedEx do deliver letters as long as they are contained in a cardboard envelope, which is quite a bit more expensive than the post office regs.

  4. How's that for government mandated "competition"? Compete all you want, so long as you don't perform services government performs, i.e.; deliver letters in envelopes, i.e.; deliver babies.

Yes, FedEX and UPS are doing great... it's the Post Office that's having trouble. So let's limit FedEX and UPS to make it fair for government.

Is it federal regulations that require cardboard containers for Fedex and UPS? Or more likely is it their own business requirements that mandate the stiffer packaging?

Both private carriers and the USPS play vital roles in our economy. And both have strengths and weaknesses. Private carriers move packages and letters as fast as an individual is willing to pay. While the USPS guarantees complete basic mail/notice/letter delivery for a basic fee. I can't see anyway that a private business could take over the role of the USPS and improve quality.

There needs to be the same relationship in healthcare. Private companies, because of market competition are not focused on healthcare outcomes. They evaluate performance based on financial success.

France has a healthcare system much closer to what democrats are suggesting. The French government pays for healthcare outlays beyond the first 30-40 percent. Most French citizens use private insurance to fill that initial gap. In their system doctors and hospitals are private businesses and are not controlled by the government. And government uses increased payment percentages to encourage citizens to use preventative/early care. By all objective measures they are considered to have the number one healthcare system in the world.

  6. "By all objective measures they are considered to have the number one healthcare system in the world."

Which measures would those be? As far as things like five year cancer survivor rates, the US is tops.

"I can't see anyway that a private business could take over the role of the USPS and improve quality."

That remains to be seen, though I'm not sure that the private carriers even care to take over the regular mail delivery for which the USPS seems to handle fairly well. I say "fairly well" because there's really no apples-oranges comparisons that can be made. I don't know that I'd want to risk my mail delivery to find out.

But at the same time, that basic service by the PO is always looking to increase rates for delivery. They seem to cry poor every couple of years and another penny or two for stamps results. This suggests to me that they aren't able to compete with the private companies that well at their current cost. Also, they are competing with email and faxes which further diminish their profit margin and thus, their ability to perform. I don't think the private guys are even set up to deliver mail in the manner that the post office does, so it's their ball game. A tough balancing act for the PO to maintain business and make a buck in these changing times.

  7. Donkey? Tastes like chicken.

Except at this point in GOP history, they couldn't even organize their own damned sock drawers.

    Nice graphics and logo, though.
