Forgive Me If I'm Not Surprised

I found this Kyle-Anne Shiver piece at the poorly written and racist AmericanThinker, and the first thing I thought, aside from how it didn't surprise me, is that the book from which her information came would be a great companion piece to Arthur Brooks' Who Really Cares?, which spoke of who is the most generous and charitable. Shiver's source material speaks of morals and ethics in a more general manner and guess who comes out being the scumbags? Of course, our lefty friends.

Now, I haven't gotten to the big Survey linked within the article, except in a cursory way. I'm sure it will be enlightening. But just based on the article itself and the info pulled from the book she highlights, I would add one small caveat. As a Christian who believes we are all sinners, as well as a rational human being who sees what's what, I have no doubts that there are scumbag conservatives, though I believe, and this piece seems to back me up nicely, that they are in shorter supply than scumbag liberals. But I would also say that it is far more likely that if you were to find two people perpetrating the same immoral behavior, and one was a liberal and the other a conservative, the conservative would likely cop to his sin, while the lib would justify it. This seems to play out often in the political arena when we see conservative politicians stepping down when caught doing wrong, but the lib won't even admit he did anything wrong. In the every day, we get the very ills described in the piece perpetrated, well, liberally.

Even amongst the liberal people of faith, we get a more watered down version of that faith such that at the extremes, conservatives just shake their heads and wonder, "Why even bother?" But of course, they bother to bring about a moral relativity that satisfies them better than the time-honored example that truly brings about a better society the more folks make the effort to live up to them.

So what's the point? The point is that America's descent is accelerated by a loosening of standards, a rejection of the traditional and a rebellion against either God or His teachings, which benefit all, even those who refuse to believe in Him. And we will descend further into the abyss, the cesspool will expand as more and more people follow in the loosening, rejection and rebellion. The evidence is all around us and out in the open. The libs pretend nothing's wrong and so further and further we slide. Only the conservatives see it and name it. To us it's like watching a car barreling toward a brick wall while the driver searches for a different CD.

The libs are driving this car now, and the rest of us are passengers endangered by their recklessness and negligence. I'm gettin' car sick.

  1. Art, I have to take exception to this line from Shriver:

"Liberals tend to think of themselves as not only smarter than conservatives, but also as more honest, more charitable, more loving and more just in their relations with other human beings."

I disagree with that assessment. Liberals do NOT think of themselves as more honest, more charitable, more loving, and more just in their relations with other human beings. They just say they are. Naturally, they just aren't being honest.

However, they most definitely do think they are smarter than Conservatives, and they are wrong about that, too.

Taking the survey and assertions at face value...Which is the cause and which the effect?

Does being conservative make you more honest, caring, and compassionate?

Or are honest caring and compassionate people drawn more strongly to conservatism?

I do have to quibble with one statement, "his seems to play out often in the political arena when we see conservative politicians stepping down when caught doing wrong, "David Vitter, Larry Craig, Rick Santorum, Newt Gingrich, John McCain, 40+ Bush Administration staffers Indicted.Convicted/Resigned under Investigation for criminal or ethical misconductYour generalization fails.

    Does it, BenT?

Actually, it fully supports the notion that conservatives, when faced with their wrongdoing...do the right thing.

Look at your most vocal liberal leaders in government, BenT! Kennedy, your senatorial GOD...Barney Frank...your House Madam. Murtha, your revered crook and liar.

    Obama...racist through and through!

  4. Bent,

My "generalizations" do not fail at all. As Al said, your link actually supports the premise, and right in the title, where it says they resigned while under investigation. This is typical, but not so for the left. I dont recall the Rep's name, but a couple of years ago we had the guy who was sending messages to male interns. When he was exposed (as it were), he stepped down. This was after the Gary Studds incident where he was actually having an affair with a young male intern. When HE was exposed (much more literally), he was actually given a standing-o for NOT stepping down.

Even worse is the point, which I may not have made clear. There is either much more "evil" being perpetrated by people who see no wrong in what they do than ever before, or such behaviors are simply more evident than ever before. Either way, it is evidence of moral decay in our society and American Descent. The more such behaviors are tolerated, generally under the ruse of "moral relativity", the further and faster the descent of our culture.

I insist it's a result of the push against religious input into our public life, the insistance that there is supposed to be some "Wall of Separation" as defined by the liberal left of this country; a defintion that is so totally skewed and counter the intentions of our founders as to be childish and laughable.

Having successfully marginalized faith-based influences, the left has left a void in the moral upbringing of our youth and created an opening for every self-serving notion of right vs wrong that can be imagined. Without a firm belief in a Creator, there is no accountability aside from that which is man-made and thus flexible to the whims of man. Why SHOULDN'T a kid cheat on tests, or steal if he thinks he can get away with it, or judge one source as a legitimate target for theft because of that source's wealth, or a host of any other ills from which we as a nation now suffer?

There IS no way to turn this around without God being at the center. Mankind has no ability to be so selfless on a national scale.

  5. "Liberals tend to think of themselves as not only smarter than conservatives, but also as more honest, more charitable, more loving and more just in their relations with other human beings."The author gives no proof nor citation for this assertion. I'm a liberal and don't tend to think any of the above. I know hundreds of liberals, and I read hundreds of liberal writings. I've never seen any evidence, implicit or explicit, that would support this assertion.

  6. "I know hundreds of liberals, and I read hundreds of liberal writings."Comic books don't count, Jim, and frankly, I'd wager you're overstating your depth of study.

But in any case, one would have to be blind, or liberal, to deny that the statement in question is, at least in a general sense, true. All one need do is to consider the blatherings of any of the liberal losers on Air America, or such luminaries as the legend-in-his-own-mind Keith Olberman to know that so many libs think they're just smarter than any on the right.

And it's no news flash that so many libs look upon conservatives, especially conservative Christians, with a condescending holier-than-thou attitude for our stance on issues such as homosexuality and abortion. Libs truly think they are more caring for those who's lives are so ruled by their crotches that they ignore all the negative stats surrounding the former, and the millions of victims of proponents of the latter.

The rest of the statement is supported by the source material upon which Shiver bases her piece.

  7. I don't read comic books; never have.

libs think they're just smarter than any on the right.

The problem here is that YOU equate yourself with the doofuses who claim that there is a war on Christmas, who claim that there is a Hitler Youth Group menace from Obama, that there are FEMA re-education camps, and that protest Obama's higher taxes when they are paying less now than they did 100 days ago.

The problem is that you seem to equate yourselves with "right-wing extremists" when you fear the the DHS is coming after you.

And there are no blatherers on Air America who can come close to matching the blathering of Sean Hannity or Glenn Beck.

It's not conservatives that liberals think they are smarter than. It's not conservative christians. It's the doofuses.

It's true, you know. You are. I think it...therefore you are.

If you only realized what a doofus you come across as...it might be easier for you to take.
