Okay, Left-Gang...justify

  2. First, you link to a column by uberhack Jonah Goldberg. He has zero credibility. None.

Second, he writes up a political ad. It doesn't attack the tenets of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It addresses the reality that much of the money and impetus behind the Yes on 8 movement in California came from the LDS Church. Since, in ads they sponsored they lies and said that failing to pass Prop 8 would force churches to marry same-sex couples in violation of their freedom of religion, it seems hardly to portray Mormons acting in such a way.

Why should anyone feel the need to "justify" anything? I don't find that ad particularly offensive at all, since it isn't attacking the LDS church.

BTW, Ozzie, you need to check out Marshall Art's buddy, Neil, over at the 4simpsons blog. He has some REAL anti-Mormon stuff there, including denying they are even Christian. That's bigotry right there.

    This? Not so much.

  3. Mormons? They aren't Christian. And who says Jonah's a hack? You? Your opinion carry any "real" weight?

    I don't think so.

  4. That's all Geoffrey needs is to say something negative about the author of an opinion piece and voila! it becomes worthless. It wouldn't matter if the LDS church was the only financial supporter of Prop 8. The ad is crap. What's more, to say that churches would be exempt from bowing to the homosex agenda at some point is pretty short sighted. In some countries they are already threatened by hate-speech laws. At some point, the right to be sexually confused will come face to face with the already firmly entrenched but all too threatened freedom of religious expression. The homosex supporters have already stated that God will have to take a back seat. Since their whole agenda and end game is built on lies and distortion, there is little negative that isn't possible. They've already gotten too many people to buy into their BS.

  5. Yes, it's just my "opinion" that a man who writes a book linking liberalism and fascism is a hack; that a man so divorced from reality and common sense that he is treated as a laughing stock by even moderates has no credibility.

Look, I dismiss Jonah Goldberg not because he's conservative, but because he has a long history of poorly thougth out, factually challenged writing behind him. Why should I take him seriously? Indeed, I don't any of you here seriously at all; this is more an anthropology project of mine.

Yet, the point I was trying to make is simple - this isn't bigotry. It's not bigotry to take one's political opponents to task for acting exactly the way they are acting. In this case, gays were presenting a factual picture of the way the LDS Church was acting. It wasn't calling them non-Christian, or saying they were evil incarnate. It merely depicted the social consequences of the LDS acting to support Prop 8.

Nothing bigoted or hateful about that at all.

  6. You dismiss all conservative writers with the same charges. Thus, your opinions of them are worthless.

If the pro-homosex ads depict Mormons as "taking away" homosex rights, it's a distortion as the homosex community doesn't have the "right" to be taken away. What a sham to insist one has the right to force society into accepting one's perversion.

  7. Goldberg is disingenuous and self-serving to make up two fantasies that have no metaphorical relationship with reality. The Jewish exampel, in particular, is a cheap use of ugly prejudice that itself prejudices his point.

The LDS did intervene in California and tipped the scale and should stand severe examination as to whether or not there are limits to this kind of political activity. The advertisement metaphor is therefore indeed a metaphor.

However, I am not in support of the militancy of protestors to Prop 8 and certainly not of basing an appeal for basic human rights on ugly attacks against another group who has wrongly and blatantly crossed the line. The LDS participated in David Duke like canvassing. But opposing such behavior should be non-violent and non-smearing.

Lee Atwater started us on this recent epoch of slippery slope underhanded influence and the use of advertisements that appeal to our lowest natures. And Ronald Reagan rode his advice to Republican glory and increasing infamy. Rove is his child, Bush the legacy. What a monument to build for us.

And Eric and MA will be on the wrong side of history here, not to mention God's ever revealing grace.

  8. "basic human rights" -Feodork

So...is pedophilia a basic human right?

Homosexuals are perverts. That's is absolutely undeniable.

  9. Is a baby's right to be born a "basic human right"?

    By GOD it should be!

  10. Where's your support for the MOST INNOCENT among us, Feodork?

You'd rather fight for the right to be pervert than to protect the life of a defenseless child.

Because of your comments her, that also is undeniable!

  11. Push for information regarding condoms and then fight the fight over lust instead of what you consider to be murder.

You continue to support many thousands more abortions by refusing the simple answers by decrying immorality and the failure rate of condom usage.

You could prevent thousands of abortions, thousands. And you call it murder, but cannot support the single most effective thing that would end thousands of such cases because of teenage lust?

Your logic is destructive to life.

And by the way, Mr. Flintstone, pedophilia is a straight person's disease. In those cases where boys are the object, a much smaller number than girls, an unresolved development in the men regarding their sexual capacity is the underlying problem. Pedophilia is an latant aberration of normal heterosexuality. In all cases.

You, however, are an aberration of brain activity.

  12. "Homosexuals are perverts. That's is absolutely undeniable."

I deny it. Therefore your statement is false.

  13. "I deny it. Therefore your statement is false."

Of course you know that's not what Al's statement means.

  14. "the single most effective thing that would end thousands of such cases because of teenage lust?"

    What is that? Self Control?

Why do you accommodate bad decisions on the part of young people?

You truly are an idiot, Feodork.

As I keep repeating...The Democrat Party is the party of irresponsibility.

  15. "This? Not so much." - J-Off

    Justification complete.

  16. Supply condoms and then argue for self-control and you wont be colluding with thousands of murders.

As it is, Republicans are withholding the means to avoid murder and avoid making the hard push for self-control.

They would rather increase criminalization and still live with murders. Fascism.

In this one way of many, the Democratic Party is the morally concerned party.

  17. Feo, what are you talking about? Providing condoms at tax payer expense?

The only thing supplying condoms has accomplished is more promiscuous behavior, more unwanted pregnancies, more STD's, and less morality.

When you inhibit the teaching of abstinence in favor of "safe sex", which is an oxymoron in the first place, teens (and other irresponsible humans) see it as giving them permission act with moral recklessness.

It's like giving the immoral carte blanch to be even more immoral. The increase in out of wedlock sex, pregnancies, STD's etc, are directly related to the Democrat party's moral relativity stance.

  18. I have rarely read such a welter of weird, neurotic views of human sexuality. I have no idea where any of you get the idea that Feodor is dismissing self-control or the importance of abstinence. I have no idea where you get the idea that promoting condom usage is somehow exclusive of teaching abstinence.

Indeed, I have no idea where the whole idea that human sexual activity is somehow innately immoral comes from. I have never understood it. Every time someone tries to explain it to me, it just gets further and further from my comprehension.

Finally, I have no idea what any of that has to do with the question at issue - are the examples cited in the link indicative of bigotry against the LDS Church by gays and others who denounce California's Proposition 8? The answer there is clearly no.

All the other stuff is just you folks working out your issues.

  19. Geoffrey,

You claim to be a seminary student and then say you don't understand where sex can be immoral? Was that one of those diploma by mail schools? All sex outside of traditional marriage is immoral. Did they ever use Bibles in your seminary?

    Feodor,

The Prop 8 situation was not only a political one, but a moral one as well. This is why separation arguments are so lame. It's difficult to not have a moral aspect to most everything we do. Here, it's quite plain that for believers to support homosex marriage, morality is in play. Thus, any church has a right and duty to act as did the LDS. They are acting on behalf of the spiritual as well as physical future of the people of the nation. Kudos to them.

Well, J-Off...if you had any sense of morality, things would be different for you.

The Democrat Party is the party of irresponsibility.

Your First Amendment right to free speech is a privilege and comes with a measure of responsibility. You have the right to exercise that responsibility here but we reserve the right to inform you when you've used that right irresponsibly.

We are benevolent dictators in this regard. Enjoy.
