Cloward-Piven Anyone? A Little Much Need Light

Clearly, there is brewing strange dark times ahead. No one is truly prescient; there is no American Maud'dib waiting to steer us along a 'golden path' through these strange dark times. We have to do the work ourselves. We have to study the facts laid out before us and determine for ourselves this nation's present course and, upon doing so, only then can we know with any certainty where we will end up, and how best to either prevent or facilitate the outcome.

A lot has been said about Cloward-Piven but, I think, not a lot of thought has been put forward in analyzing just what it means. Is it really possible to bankrupt the economy and government, and expect government to then replace our system of governance with even greater boons to the moocher class?

Let's project a little light onto the subject and viability of the whole Cloward-Piven strategy...

Why Cloward-Piven Will Eat Itself

  1. After mid-term elections I guarantee you we will see Obama wanting to raise taxes on the middle class (something he promised not to do). His excuse will be that the government has taken on too much debt.

Both parties use financial benefits as a big selling point. Democrats see the social safety net as a benefit to the country and so become beholden to those ideals. Republicans on the other hand see corporate business as a boon to the country and become beholden to those interests. Both parties if unchecked would propose policies targeted to their demographic that would be detrimental to the nation.

Republicans would repeal all the regulations that prevent business from taking unnecessary risks or advantage of the populace. And we got to that place in the previous administration. Energy companies that were unregulated and financial services that led to a global depression.

Democrats are now in ascendancy and are proposing growing the social safety net and also checking the republican policies. Unopposed in half a century the entitlement programs of democrats could be such a drain on the nation that it risks damage to the economy. We are no where near that point. The last great expansion of liberal policies was in the 1930's. Since then it is conservative ideals that have run rampant.

Since the 1970's top marginal rates have fallen from 70% to less than 30%. That's where the deficit and debt has come from. Since the beginning of the cold war the Pentagon budget has grown at twice the rate of health care prices. Corporations have faced less and less health, safety, and quality control regulation.

Republicans have spent 40 years turning off the tap of federal income demanding more and more tax cuts and when in office spending greater and greater amounts on corporate giveaways so that actual American people have an increased need for social safety net programs, tax rebates, the benefits that democrats offer.

  3. IF the dems lose even one of their majorities this Fall, especially the House, I believe you will see that lame duck session attempt to push through as much of their remaining agenda before the end of January. Their thinking will be this: Get it signed in to law and it's in for good; after all, America is not in the habit of repealing anything.

Get it signed in to law and it's in for good

    Let's hope so.

  5. A few fallacies:

    * Republicans have not been in charge for the whole of 40 years so any lowering of taxes are the product of BOTH houses... nice try though.

but, you know what? I'm not going to waste my vacation trying to give you the education you failed to receive in high school. I'm not going to argue with ignorance, or any mind capable of independent "free" thought. Feel free to wallow in the mire of your stupendous ...

Your First Amendment right to free speech is a privilege and comes with a measure of responsibility. You have the right to exercise that responsibility here but we reserve the right to inform you when you've used that right irresponsibly.

We are benevolent dictators in this regard. Enjoy.
