All Generalizations Are False

"Ninety percent of the politicians give the other ten percent a bad reputation." ~ Henry Kissinger

It's not because the Republican party is hypocritical or corrupt that the Republican Governor of South Carolina, Mark Sanford made a stupid, hypocritical, colossal blunder in having an affair. Because overall, it isn't (as far as I know).

But, that won't stop the Democrats from making that presumptuous charge.

Here are just two of the comments posted about Sanford's revelation of his affair:

"Once again, the Republicans prove they are the bigger enemy to the 'sanctity of marriage' than the gays and lesbians".

"That is normal for a republican! Know wonder that our gov is screwed UP!"

Obviously, that particular charge applies only to him. It's not like the Republican party leaders ordered him to commit adultery. Or, to announce it publicly. Indeed, the Republican party, more than the Democrats, stand for personal responsibility. And, in this case (as all other similar cases), Governor Sanford is the only one who bears responsibility for his actions.

To his credit, he acknowledges that fact.

I hate it when some Republican politician does something stupid. I love it when some Democrat does. Because the entire party automatically becomes suspect.

And, I admit, that is just plain wrong.

One simply cannot, in all honesty, fault the entire party for something some idiot member of the party did. But, by the same token, haven't many of us been guilty of projecting the same onto the Democratic party?

Well, yes, but then the Democratic party is normally the party that defends rather than condemns such behavior.

Nevertheless, wait. Watch. And see.

The media and the Democrats and the Liberals will be making that connection:

Governor Mark Sanford is a hypocrite and corrupt, therefore, the Republican party is hypocritical and corrupt.

It follows as night follows day.

  1. Democrats do not have the moral compass to judge anyone for infidelety. Politians screwing up is a normal event that has repeated itself for 1000s of years.

The only difference between the Dems and the Republicans are that Repulbicans will kick him out.

Its funny how Libtards think it a victory whey a Conservative sinks to thier level.

  2. This couldn't have happened in a worse way, by one of the best prospects for 2012. As I was hearing more from this guy, I was seeing a real possibility for conservatism. Now, he's out of the picture for the foreseeable future and likely forever. I haven't heard anything from him as regards seeking forgiveness from the wife and kids and a try for patching things up. I think that's necessary and of course, the right thing for him to do.

As Mark implied, the left should notice how Sanford acknowledged that what he did was wrong. He was rather unequivical about it. He didn't try to lessen that. That's an important distinction between one who understands right and wrong and one who runs from that understanding. He didn't say, "This is MY truth." or any similar crap we so often hear from the left when they succomb to temptation. Now all that remains is how he proceeds from here and if we'll ever hear about it.

The problem is that Republicans have grasped the mantle of "family values" but seldom live up to their own ideals. And when Republicans fall they aren't even ostracized from the caucus. It's the hypocrisy that rankles.

Newt Gingrich - carried on an affair with congressional aide while damning Bill Clinton for infidelity. Still speaks for conservatives.

Larry Craig - Caught in bathroom sex sting operation after spending years promoting family values. Still member of congress and republican party without censure.

John McCain - carried on an affair and divorced wife to marry new partner with funds to support political career. Nominated to be Republican presidential candidate.

David Vitter - Louisiana Rep. implicated in D.C. prostitution scandal. running for reelection with republican party support.

These are just the republicans that come to mind off the top of my head. Can you name any Dem hypocrites?

  4. Barney Frank allowed his live-in lover to run a male-prostitution ring from his basement.

Ted Kennedy murdered a woman by not even trying to save the girl in his sinking car.

William Jefferson caught with 90,000 bucks of bribe money in his freezer.

Governor Jim McGreevey, AG Eliot Spitzer, Kwame Kilpatrick, and current NY Governor David Paterson...

    ...and I'm barely looking.

Your history of John McCain, by the way, is jaundiced. But Vitter?, Craig? Republicans actually CALLED for their resignations. The difference here, is Democrats NEVER call for the resignations of members of their party.

McGreevey had the good sense to resign on his own, as did Spitzer. But Spitzer resigned because of his hypocrisy, and the fact that he had broken several laws in the process of his hooker trysts.

And you said, "And when Republicans fall they aren't even ostracized from the caucus. It's the hypocrisy that rankles."

What a load of horse-squeeze. Republicans ROUTINELY demand resignations, but resignations require the resignee to acquiesce. You are a typical mindless liberal sycophant. You CLAIM you review conservative issues and publications but you only do so to bolster your belief that your worldview is the superior one. You say you read with an open mind but your opinions never evolve. Even Barack Obama has greater evolution of worldview.

You make excuses, obfuscations, erect layers of extenuating circumstance, and evoke tangential rhetoric to deflect criticisms of your masters. I can't remember the last time you offered an honest argument.

  5. To elaborate, Spitzer recognized his own hypocrisy and manned up. That is a very rare occurrence for a democrat.
